What type of media should I use for this gift?

The family I babysit for has a new baby boy on the way, and he's due within the next couple of weeks. I want to give them a personal gift, so I've decided I want to give them a piece of art done by me. I'm pretty good at photography and drawing, but I haven't ever painted before. The first grade girl is going to share a room with her brother, so I'd like for them to put it in their room. I would like the piece to have something with animals, such as a giraffe, a horse, elephant, dog, etc. Should I take a photograph and frame it? Should I draw something? Should I try and paint? Also, what type of media (kind of pencil, paint, etc.) and background (canvas, etc.) should I use if I draw or paint?I know it's my choice, but I want to know your opinions.

Hi Abigail, I wonder if you can try something that goes along with the theme of the bedroom, assuming there is one. For instance, my first grandson's bedding has a "cute jungle animal" theme: I painted his toybox in colors to coordinate with his room, then painted the same cute jungle animals on the toybox.
You mentioned you are good at drawing, so here's an alternative idea. How about a pencil portrait of each of the children (of course you'll have to wait 'til baby is born!) I'm sure you could do a great job working from photographs of the kids. (You could draw them either together or separately.) One look I like is a black-and-white pencil drawing with only the eyes colored in (in either colored pencil or watercolor.) Or one article of their clothing highlighted in color.
