Have: Ergo baby carrier. Do not like: Ergo baby carrier. What am I doing wrong?

It sort of cuts under my arms a bit, and it's giving me a raging pain between my shoulder blades/in the general upper back area.

It seemed like maybe the back strap (called a 'chest strap' by Ergo, but a back strap here -- front carry w/a 5mth old) should be lower, but there's no way I can get it done up with it lower.

What might I be needing to adjust? Any ideas?

When the baby is in the carrier your spine should be verticle from your neck to your lower back. If you find yourself leaning forward it usually means the straps aren't tight enough so they aren't distributing the weight properly.

But I'm looking at the ergo site now, and frankly I don't get that carrier at all. The straps don't come very far down the adults torso at all? The lower straps don't come far enough down the body at all and they are riding up in all the photos on the site!

There should be a waist strap?

Ok I watched the video for "front carry"

The strap that she tightens behind her neck is going to pull the straps in close to your neck where they will push on ligaments instead of bone. Ligaments cause a lot of pain when you put weight on them.

And the arrangement of other straps doesn't seem to redistribute the weight at all. The other "horizontal" strap around the "chest" weight" is pulling down on the shoulder straps rather than redistributing the weight across it? I don't get it at all.

Can you return it?

In a carrier the straps have to be flat and firmly against the body to distribute the weight.
