What to do with my 14 month old?
I love my little boy with all my heart but I am having a huge problem with his temper. He gets so angry sometimes that his face turns red and he makes little fits. He likes to hit me when he doesn't get his way. He will also screech at the top of his lungs when he doesn't get his way, being in his stroller, when I take to long making his meals etc. He wants to be carried all the time when we are out. I am practicing attachment parenting, and Iam at a loss, everything I am trying doesn't work and I am ripping my hair out at this point. I never let me son CIO and I know that's what people will say I should do. I have RA and get tired very easily. My son cannot just play with me for awhile and has to rip apart my house, leaving me tired and frustrated. I know he is just a baby, but the anger he is expressing is concerning me. Any other parents have similar issues? Thank you!
When he hits you say "Do not hit Mommy. OWIE" and set him down immediately. Take his hand run it across your face or arm and say "Nice to Mommy. Nice" and clap and give him a huge, make a huge deal out of it. Let him know that he will get more attention when he is nice to Mommy than he would when he is hitting. One reason for the anger could be that he can't express himself fully yet. Have you thought about teaching him baby sign language? Does he speak at all? Sometimes just teaching a few signs like "More" "please" "milk" "hungry" etc can help immensely with their frustrations. And it doesn't delay speech, it actually encourages it. And one thing to remember is that about every few months they go through "negative" phases. This could just be a month thing that he is going through right now, I know how frustrating it is. Trust me, I've been there but you just have to stay consistent and help him through it. I practice AP as well, if you want to message me you can do so :]
